Vandals wreak havoc across Guildford - did you see anything suspicious?
Surrey Police is appealing for witnesses following a series of criminal damages in the Guildford area overnight last Tuesday (29 March).
Bricks were thrown at cars and house windows, with vandals causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage.
Vandals targeted addresses across the Guildford area, including Hazel Avenue, MacDowall Road, Weston Road, Harts Gardens, Beckingham Road, Dorrit Crescent, Clover Road, Yew Tree Drive, Oak Tree Drive, Farncombe Street, Southway, Henderson Avenue, Rydes Hill Road and Belmont Avenue, using plant pots and bricks to smash car windows and windscreens as well as house windows.
Investigating officer PC Jason Anderson said: “We have had numerous reports of criminal damage after vandals wreaked havoc across Guildford overnight last Tuesday, targeting houses and cars with bricks. They caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage and massive inconvenience and expensive repair bills for those whose property was targeted.
“I am appealing for anyone with any information to come forward as soon as possible so that we can identify the suspects involved and ensure they are brought to justice.”

This is a shame.
It’s also a shame the £16,000 burglary from our she’d never got any media attention and the police have closed the case, having found nothing despite the fact they have a very strong lead… Oh well.

Why would it get media attention? Yes it’s a big loss to you, but presumably you were insured. This article is about a crime spree with many many victims, affecting all different parts of the community. Quite different to a burglary which only affects you. Also, whether or not the police have a lead, they need to have evidence. A suspicion isn’t enough. It’s just the way the cookie crumbles.

Thought: If someone was throwing bricks and plant pots about in the night , smashing windows and car panels I’m sure I’d be awake and on the phone to the Police pretty rapidly. For the individuals to cover that sort of area whilst stopping to find suitable ammo would take a good half an hour or so and would be fairly visible, I would have thought ! So were there no phone calls, and no response to the area at the time ? Strange.
