Seven further arrests have been made over the past two weeks in connection with a public order incident at the Investec Derby Festival in Epsom on Saturday, 4 June 2016.

An investigation was launched under the name ‘Operation Attic’ following the incident, which occurred near an entertainment stage set up on The Hill shortly after the event.

A police officer had his tooth knocked out and obtained cuts to his face after bottles were thrown in the crowds. An 18-year-old man was also injured with cuts to his head and face.

The arrests made over the past two weeks are as follows:

  • Male (17) GBH / Assault
  • Male (17) Violent Disorder / GBH
  • Male (18) GBH x2 / ABH / Robbery / Violent Disorder / Possession of Cannabis
  • Male (19) ABH / GBH / Robbery / Violent Disorder
  • Male (15) GBH x 2 / ABH / Robbery / Violent Disorder
  • Male (17) Violent Disorder / GBH x 2 / ABH / Robbery / Possession of Class A W/I to supply
  • Male (16) Violent Disorder / GBH x 2 / ABH / Robbery

The men remain on police bail whilst enquiries continue.

Following the incident on the day of the Derby, eleven men were arrested for various public order offences and are currently on police bail until the 19, 20, 21 and 25 July pending further enquiries.

Surrey Police has assigned a dedicated team of officers to work solely on this investigation in order to bring those responsible to justice.

The team continue to appeal to anybody who witnessed the incident that afternoon or with any information to contact police. Officers are also urging anybody with any video footage or photographs of the incident to send these in to assist them with their enquiries. 

Detective Sergeant Errol Chetty, said: “The Investec Derby Festival is a hugely popular event attracting thousands of race-goers locally and nationally every year. While the majority of people enjoyed a successful event with no crime it is a shame that a minority of people sought to break the law and cause disruption to an otherwise extremely successful event.

“We will not tolerate behaviour like this and are determined to identify and bring those responsible to justice.

“I am urging anybody who witnessed the incident or with any information at all to contact us immediately.”
