The Mayor, Councillor Gordon Jackson, and Councillor Paul Spooner, Leader of the Council, thanked members of the local community for their talent, endeavour and contribution to the borough. The High Sheriff of Surrey, Mr Richard Whittington and his wife also attended.

National honours recognise and acknowledge the significant contribution and achievements of people, and the extraordinary efforts that they go to for their communities, organisations or teams.

Honours were given to:

  • Guildford’s Olympians and Paralympians who participated in the Rio 2016 Games
  • Guildford’s leading public servants, including the
    • Police
    • Prison Service
    • Government - both national and local
    • Education
    • Environmental Services
    • Support for Children and Families
  • Guildford’s research and high-tech industry representatives, recognising:
    • world class academics
    • medical research
    • technology advances
    • services to business and the economy
  • Local people making outstanding contributions to charity and serving their own villages and communities
  • An honour was given to mark services to World War One remembrance.
