Local businesses sign up to Guildford Corporate Citizenship Charter
So far, twenty-five well-respected local firms and organisations have signed up, with more keen to get involved. The latest companies to sign are Penningtons Manches, 96.4 Eagle Radio, RSM UK, Sanofi, University of Law and Charles Russell Speechlys.
The Charter builds on the growing awareness of the role that businesses can play in the local community and how they can give back through corporate social responsibility schemes.
It asks employers to:
-
help promote the local economy, support local suppliers and jobs and the learning and development of our workforce
-
act as champions to encourage and influence the investment in infrastructure and housing that our employees, residents and businesses need
-
manage the environmental impact of their business activities
-
support the local community and encourage their staff to be active citizens.
Cllr Paul Spooner, Leader of the Council, says: “Businesses make a hugely positive contribution to the community in which we live and work and to the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of Guildford.
“Signing a pledge to work together is an excellent start and we are delighted to have these key local businesses on board. We need to turn good intentions into meaningful projects and actions that will make a real difference to our people and our borough.”
