Two conservation area appraisal consultations announced
The consultation periods will both be held between Monday 3 April and Tuesday 2 May 2017.
The purpose of a conservation area appraisal is to record those aspects of the conservation area which make a particular contribution to its special character, appearance, and which should be preserved and enhanced. The special character of a conservation area does not just come from the quality of its buildings but also other elements, such as historic road layouts, open spaces, paths and boundaries, as well as the use of local materials and detailing. All of these contribute to an area’s special and unique character.

Details of both these consultations will be available to view from Monday 3 April 2017 on getinvolved.guildford.gov.uk/consult.ti/system/listConsultations
Following the public consultation, and after consideration of representations made, the conservation area appraisals will be amended to address valid points of concern.
A summary of the comments received and the amended conservation area appraisal for Holmbury St Mary and Ripley will both be formally submitted for approval by the Council’s Executive Committee. They will become adopted documents that will provide a clear understanding of the areas’ special character, which will become a material consideration in the planning process to be used to inform proposals for new development.
