Surrey Heath MP says “No” to Fairoaks Airport New Town
County Councillor for Bagshot, Windlesham and Chobham Mike Goodman posted on his facebook page this morning (30th April 2017) that Michael Gove was Very clear that he did not support the Garden Village Proposal for Fairoaks and went as far as saying, ‘Development of the Fairoaks site anywhere near the scale of the current proposal is madness’.
Residents in Chobham have been campaigning against proposals of a Garden Village at the Fairoaks airport site.
In February Chelgate, a PR and reputation management company held a ‘Community Planning Weekend” which was attended by Michael Gove. More on that here.
At the time of writing Surrey Heath Borough Council have maintained they have not received a planning application for the site although they have published an Expression of Interest GV EoI final doc for submission on their web site.
Michael Gove coming out in opposition to the current proposals will be a major boost to campaigners who have set up an ePetition.
At a breakfast meeting in Chobham on Friday, the Surrey Heath MP reaffirmed his commitment to protect his constituency’s greenbelt and ‘fight for and defend their quality of life’.
