Surrey Police is pleased to announce that Nev Kemp has been selected to the Assistant Chief Constable post overseeing Local Policing for Surrey, Criminal Justice and Contact Management.

Nev joins the Force from Sussex Police where he most recently has been the Chief Superintendent responsible for Brighton and Hove. He has served with Sussex Police for 22 years in a range of uniform and detective roles including Head of Crime and Counter Terrorism Operations; Head of Crime Investigations and back in 2012 was promoted to lead the Protecting Vulnerable People Branch.

Speaking about his appointment and imminent move to Surrey, Nev said:

“Having spent some time in Surrey over the last few weeks as part of the application process, I have been consistently impressed by the professionalism, commitment and pride that officers and staff working in Surrey Police rightly have in the job they do to keep the public safe, whether they have been on the front-line or supporting front-line service delivery.

“There is much that I will miss about Sussex Police after 22 years’ service, but it is already clear to me that the two organisations have a tremendous amount in common and I feel hugely excited and privileged to be joining the Surrey Chief Officer Team as Assistant Chief Constable.”

Deputy Chief Constable Gavin Stephens said:

“The high quality calibre of the candidates made the choice a difficult one but the selection panel agreed that Nev was an outstanding candidate for the role. We’re really looking forward to him starting his role with us on Monday 8 May. I know he will ensure that we continue to improve the service we provide to victims, the wider Surrey public and our pursuit of criminals so that Surrey continues to be a safe county in which to live, work and visit.”
