A new link road that will support the continued economic growth of Woking Town Centre and improve public transport will open on Monday 12 June 2017.

The link road connecting High Street directly with Victoria Way will mean the permanent closure of Cawsey Way and Church Street West to through traffic. Under a temporary arrangement, there will be no left or right turn onto Victoria Way. Instead traffic will be directed ahead only along Goldsworth Road.

During the summer, a series of vehicle restrictions will be introduced to High Street. The restrictions will see:

The restrictions will be implemented under an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order once the works are complete along High Street. The ETRO will be monitored and assessed for six months. Formal objections to the ETRO becoming permanent can be made within six months to the day of the Order coming in to force.

Scheduled highway enhancement works

In addition to works to High Street, a series of scheduled highway enhancement works will continue along Victoria Way.

Victoria Way (south-bound): Monday 12 June to Sunday 25 June 2017

  • Victoria Way (south-bound) will be closed between Lockfield Drive and Goldsworth Road.
  • Traffic will be diverted along Lockfield Way, Parley Drive, Triggs Lane and Wych Hill Lane.
  • Diversion route with clear signage will be in place.

Victoria Way (north-bound): Monday 12 June to Monday 31 July 2017

  • Victoria Way (north-bound) will remain closed to through traffic.
  • Traffic will continue to be diverted along Goldsworth Road, Church Street West and Forge End onto Victoria Way.
  • Church Street West between the junctions of Forge End and Victoria Way will remain closed to through traffic.
  • Diversion route with clear signage will be in place.

Victoria Way pedestrian crossing: from Sunday 2 July 2017

  • The existing pedestrian crossing located adjacent to the former Woking Market site will be relocated beside Victoria Arch.

It is expected that from Tuesday 1 August 2017 Victoria Way will reopen to both north and south-bound traffic, along with the new junction between High Street and Victoria Way becoming fully operational.

Woking Borough Council would like to thank road users for their continued patience during these works. We are fully committed to keeping Woking Town Centre open for business and disruption to a minimum in order to deliver these significant highways enhancements that will benefit everyone in Woking Borough.
