The body of a man who was recovered from the River Thames on Friday, 2 June has been identified as Alan Jones, 66, of Shepperton.

Surrey Police received a call from a member of the public reporting seeing a man entering the River Thames at around 00.15.

Officers searched the river with colleagues from Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, and the man’s body was recovered near Russell Road, Shepperton at around 2am.

A man arrested on suspicion of murder in relation to the death has been released from police custody, but remains under investigation.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in Shepperton on the evening of Thursday, 1 June and the early hours of Friday, 2 June, particularly between 10pm and 1am.
