A man has been charged in connection with a ram raid that took place at an Oxted clothing shop in April.

The Gas Station on Station Road East was broken into on 5 April and thousands of pounds worth of clothing was taken. A stolen vehicle was used to smash the front window, it was later set on fire.

Phillip Hodson, of Barnett’s Shaw, Oxted, was charged yesterday (28 June) with burglary and arson. He was also charged with theft of a motor vehicle, this offence is being dealt with by Sussex Police.

During the course of the investigation he was also charged with a two firearms offences after ammunition was seized from an address in Oxted.

The 29-year-old has been remanded in custody and is next due to appear at Guildford Crown Court on 27 July 2017.

A 44-year-old man remains under investigation in connection with the incident at the Gas Station in Oxted.
