Local schools excel in Guildford in Bloom Gardening Competition
This year the theme of the competition was ‘The Seaside’ with the challenge being that the children had to design, create and maintain a garden that represents this.
Eleven schools from across the borough took part in the competition with each being awarded either a Bronze, Silver, Silver Gilt or Gold award just like gardens at the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show!
At an awards ceremony, held at Clandon Park Garden Centre, the Mayor of Guildford, Cllr Nigel Manning, presented children from the competing schools with their awards.
Commenting on the Best in Competition garden from Weyfield Primary Academy School, the judges said:
“What a wonderful seaside creation with two distinct areas separated by a beach hut and a boat donated by a sailing club. The boat was full of planted-up pots painted to represent seaside colours. Bird boxes were also painted by children, except for one, which had a Wagtail in it! A bug hotel was underneath the boat. A delightful mermaid was relaxing and holding a cone filled with birdseed.”
See our Guildford in Bloom page for more results from the competition.
