Released on behalf of CTP South East – Two arrested for terrorism offences
Detectives from Counter Terrorism Policing South East have arrested a teenager and a man on suspicion of a terrorism offences yesterday (11/7).
A 17-year-old male youth was arrested in the Redhill area for dissemination of terrorist material contrary to Section 2 of the Terrorism Act; preparation of terrorist acts contrary to Section 5 of the Terrorism Act; arranging funds or property for terrorist purposes contrary to Section 17 of the Terrorism Act; and the collection of information which may be useful to someone who commits or prepares acts of terrorism contrary to Section 58 of the Terrorism Act.
A 23-year-old man was arrested in the South London area for preparations of acts of terrorism contrary to Section 5 of the Terrorism Act and arranging funds or property for terrorist purposes contrary to Section 17 of the Terrorism Act.
This arrests relate to an investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing South East and officers would like to reassure residents that the police activity is in part of an ongoing investigation and there was no immediate risk to the local communities.
Searches are currently being carried out as part of the pre-planned operation.
The two men are currently in police custody.
