A taxi driver was left counting the cost after he was racially abused and the wing mirror of his car was smashed in Egham earlier this month.

Surrey Police is appealing for witnesses to the incident which occurred in The Causeway from Egham towards Staines on 4 July between 9.40 and 10am.

The suspect, who was driving a blue Ford Ka, was behind the victim when he overtook him and parked in the middle of the road in front of him, blocking both lanes, just before the Sainsburys mini roundabout. The suspect racially abused the victim before smashing the wing mirror of his car, causing the glass to fall out, before driving off.

The suspect is described as white, between 5ft 10 and 6ft tall, of a proportionate build, with short, unkempt light brown hair, and was wearing a light-coloured round-necked tee-shirt.

PC Graham Stephenson, who is investigating the incident, said: “This is a busy area and there would have been a lot of other drivers and pedestrians around at the time. I have carried out a number of enquiries, but am keen to speak to anyone who might have witnessed this incident or can provide me with any other information.

“Any kind of racial abuse is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated by Surrey Police.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Surrey Police on 101, quoting crime reference number 45170072160 or use the online reporting system https://report.police.uk/
