A search remains underway following a two-vehicle collision on the A3 at Esher earlier this morning (23 July).

The collision, involving a black BMW and a silver Vauxhall Insignia, took place around 12.15am on the southbound carriageway near the junction with Copsem Lane.

The driver of the BMW left the scene following the collision. The vehicle suffered substantial damage as a result of the incident and it is believed that the driver may have sustained serious injuries. There may have also been other occupants in the vehicle.

A thorough search, involving the police helicopter, dog units, the fire service and officers with thermal imaging equipment, is being carried out of the surrounding area. Volunteers from Surrey Search and Rescue are also providing assistance.

The driver of the Vauxhall is being treated in hospital for his injuries, which are not thought to be serious at this time.

The southbound carriageway of the A3 remains closed, although it is hoped that two lanes will be reopened shortly.
