CCTV: Detectives renew appeal for information into murder of Walton-on-Thames man on one year anniversary
Surrey Police is appealing for the public’s help for information into the murder of Scott Wilkinson in Walton-on-Thames on the year anniversary of his death.
On the evening of Wednesday, 27 July 2016 local man 48-year-old Scott Wilkinson was brutally murdered on the island near Sunbury Lock in Walton-on-Thames, known locally as ‘Donkey Island’.
Scott left his home address on Monday, 25 July 2016 to go fishing. He pitched his tent near to the water’s edge on the northern side of the island, it was secluded amongst trees, close to Sunbury Weir.
On the morning of Thursday, 28 July 2016, Scott was reported missing from the island. Following a search of the area, Scott’s body was found at around 4.25pm that same day, a short distance away from where he was fishing the night before.
A post-mortem examination carried out concluded the cause of death as trauma to the head.
A year on after Scott’s death, detectives investigating the murder need the public’s help in identifying a dog walker captured in CCTV footage.
Leading the Investigation, Detective Chief Inspector, Paddy Mayers, from Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, said: “Following a previous public appeal we have spoken to a number of people who were on this island in the week leading up to Scott’s murder, their information has been valuable to our investigation. I am urging anybody who has not yet come forward and was on the island prior to his murder or with any information at all to get in touch with us.
“I am also keen to hear from anybody who recognises the dog walker in this CCTV image. We think this person may have been in the area the following morning, around the same time Scott was reported missing and might have information which could assist our ongoing investigation. If this is you or you recognise the person please do not hesitate to contact us.
“Scott, a son, brother, father and grandfather was dearly loved by all who knew him and we will leave no stone unturned to get justice for Scott and his family who are still, one year on, coming to terms with his death.”
- A 16-year-old boy, a 17-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man have been released from police bail but remain under investigation.
Anyone with any information is urged to contact Surrey Police on 101.
