Surrey Police is reminding residents of Ashford and Staines to be alert after a spate of local burglaries.

There were a number of burglaries reported on Tuesday 26 July in the area of Wheatsheaf Lane, Penton Road and School Road. Doors and windows were forced and glazing smashed to gain entry and steal cash, jewellery and electronic items.

Witnesses recall seeing a slim, white man in his 20s walking away from one of the burgled properties, while in Ashford a group of three white men were seen in a car apparently taking notice of residents as they left their homes to go out.

The Sunbury-on –Thames area is experiencing opportunistic overnight burglaries, with suspects gaining entry through open windows to steal handbags and other items. In Anvil Road at 5:30am on Tuesday 11 July a male offender was seen climbing back out through an open window after being disturbed by the resident who discovered that his wallet and mobile phone had been stolen. Two men in their early 20s were seen running off towards Martingale Close.

The advice from Surrey Police is to ensure front doors are properly locked, car keys etc are not left in view of letterboxes and to be careful if leaving windows open overnight.
